The president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints celebrates his birthday today. He was born on September 9, 1924, to Marion Clavar Nelson and Floss Edna Nelson.
Prior to his calling as a member of the quorum of the twelve on April 7, 1984, President Nelson was an internationally renowned surgeon and medical researcher. He received his BA and MD degrees from the University of Utah (1945, 1947). His professional work included the positions of research professor of surgery and director of the thoracic surgery residency at the University of Utah, as well as chairman of the Division of Thoracic Surgery at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City.
As he celebrates his birthday, we take a look at two important videos of President Nelson on the gospel of Jesus Christ.
